Privacy Policy

What information we keep about you, why we keep it, and how we protect it.

Last updated: 17 October 2026

01Who we are

Coleske Education (Pty) Ltd ("Coleske", "we", "us") operates an online learning platform offering CAPS-aligned content across subjects for high-school learners. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what rights you have over it.

02Information we collect

When you use Coleske, we collect:

  • Account information: your name and email address, your grade, and whether you are under 18 (with a parent or guardian's email if you are).
  • Learning data: lessons viewed, completion status, quiz attempts and scores, and Question of the Week answers.
  • Technical information: basic device and browser information needed to operate the site securely.
  • Devices: a random ID for each browser or installed app you use Coleske on, its type (for example "Chrome on Android") and when it was last used. We use this to apply the device limits of your account, to show you your devices under More, and to email you when a new device signs in.
  • Notifications: if you turn notifications on, the address your browser gives us for sending them to that device, and which kinds you chose. You can turn them off at any time under More or in your device settings.
  • Streaks: the days on which you completed a lesson or a quiz.
  • Payments: your plan, the amounts and dates of your payments and PayFast's payment references. PayFast processes the payment itself; we never see or store your full card details.
  • Agreements: which version of our Terms, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy and Delivery Policy you accepted, and when.

We do not knowingly collect more personal information than is needed to provide the service.

03Why we process your information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Give you access to the plan you chose, and bill it through PayFast.
  • Track your learning progress and show you what to study next.
  • Send you the notifications and emails you need (for example a payment confirmation, a coming price change, or a new device signing in).
  • Provide customer support and respond to queries.
  • Improve the platform based on how it's actually used.

04Children's information

Coleske's learners are high-school learners, so many are under 18. Under POPIA, processing a child's personal information generally requires consent from a parent or legal guardian. Where a learner is under 18, we require confirmation of parent or guardian consent before an account is created. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child's information has been collected without appropriate consent, please contact us using the details below so we can address it.

05Where your information is stored

Coleske's data is stored and processed using third-party infrastructure providers (currently Supabase, Vercel and Resend for email), which may store data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected to a standard consistent with POPIA's requirements for cross-border transfers. Payments are processed by PayFast in South Africa.

06Your rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information, subject to any legal obligation we may have to retain it.
  • Object to certain uses of your information.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your rights have been infringed.

07How long we keep your information

We retain your information for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, accounting, or reporting obligations. Payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires. You may request earlier deletion of anything else at any time.

08Security

We use reasonable technical measures, including encrypted connections and access controls, to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
